Right now in Portugal, seven districts currently fall under the yellow weather warning. These include well-known tourist areas like Lisbon, Porto, and Aveiro, along with Coimbra, Braga, Leiria, and Viana do Castelo.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere states between today and the evening of Wednesday, January 3, northwest wave heights will likely reach four to five meters.

High waves pose potential dangers because they can form breakers and cause turbulent rip currents. When this happens, people become far more susceptible to drowning.
