Around the world, millions of people celebrated the start of this year with fireworks, champagne, and parties. In real time, social media feeds are littered with photos and videos of NYE celebrations, light displays, and other festivities.

The beginning of a new year symbolizes an opportunity for fresh beginnings, possibilities, and adventures. It also just so happens that both here in America and across the globe, there's no shortage of critical subject matters worth keeping an eye on in 2024.

Over the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal, for instance, much of the country is under a yellow weather warning.

Here's what's happening in Portugal

A yellow weather warning constitutes an alert stating any impacts from the approaching climate will be minimal, but people are still advised to be on their guard.

Generally, in these cases, folks shouldn't take mild weather for granted and should go online to see what the temperature and winds look like before they head out. At the same time, people should avoid being overly cautious or afraid to leave their accommodations.

Right now in Portugal, seven districts currently fall under the yellow weather warning. These include well-known tourist areas like Lisbon, Porto, and Aveiro, along with Coimbra, Braga, Leiria, and Viana do Castelo.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere states between today and the evening of Wednesday, January 3, northwest wave heights will likely reach four to five meters.

High waves pose potential dangers because they can form breakers and cause turbulent rip currents. When this happens, people become far more susceptible to drowning.

More on Portugal in 2024

As this year kicks off, the prices of Portugal's luxury properties are expected to reach a 2.5% rate of average growth. More buyers - especially in the United States - view Portugal as a worthwhile nation to find property at good rates. Tax incentives play a major role in this as well.

With the nation's luxury housing market on to rise, now is very much a time for buyers to evaluate their options and procure the most bang for their buck. As 2024 goes on, the world can expect new developments and updates out of Portugal.
