Last month, first son Hunter Biden was put on trial and convicted for lying on the forms he filled out to buy a Colt revolver gun in 2018. Despite the best efforts of his legal defense team, a jury ultimately found President Biden's son guilty of the three felony charges brought against him.

As court proceedings played out, the president himself went on record, claiming he wouldn't pardon his son if a guilty verdict emerged. However, some of Biden's critics still question whether he'll ultimately change his mind at the eleventh hour.

With Hunter set to face sentencing later this year, he's back in the news again, albeit for a very different reason.

Why the first son is suing Fox News

Earlier this week, Hunter Biden initiated the lawsuit in New York's Supreme Court. Arguing that Fox News sought to "commercialize" his likeness, ultimately targeting, defaming, and harassing him, the first son is suing for emotional distress and unjust enrichment.

This legal action stems from Fox News airing The Trial of Hunter Biden: A Mock Trial for the American People on its Fox Nation platform. In this show from October 2022, Hunter's foreign business affairs stood out as the central theme.

Though the president's son maintains that Fox News violated anti-revenge porn laws in New York by publishing nude, intimate, and sexual images of him without his consent. As such, Hunter is seeking puniitve damages, alongside any profits that Fox News earned from the show.

The first son previously threatened to sue Fox News, leading the conservative media platform to remove the content from Fox Nation. However, Hunter proceeded with the lawsuit anyway, on the grounds that third party streaming platforms can still access the show.

Various clips and reels promoting The Trial of Hunter Biden: A Mock Trial for the American People remain up as well, according to the first son, which is a factor in this litigation.

Fox News responds to the suit

Following Hunter Biden's lawsuit, the conservative media platform insisted his litigation is frivolous and without merit. They've also stated that despite removing the show for the sake of "caution in the interim," it still remains protected by the First Amendment.

Before then expressing an interest in "vindicating [their] rights in court," Fox News went on to denounce the first son's lawsuit as "politically motivated."
