On Wednesday, the president of the United States responded to ongoing criticism from George Conway, husband to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.

What Happened?

For many months, George Conway has elected to publically go after President Trump on social media and other forums. Of course, this has raised some eyebrows. Seeing as Conway is the husband of the president's counselor, many Americans have questioned the appropriateness of his public censure.

For the most part, President Trump has remained largely silent towards Conway's husband, despite the criticism. However, that changed today. The president slammed Conway as a "husband from hell," "stone-cold loser," and cited him as envious of his wife's success.

What Does Kellyanne Conway Think?

Naturally, Americans have wondered what Kellyanne Conway thinks about the public spat between her husband and her boss. During a sitdown with Politico, the counselor to the president stated that Trump reserves the right to defend himself when his mental health is brought into question.

In her own words:

"He left it alone for months out of respect for me. But you think he shouldn’t respond when somebody, a non-medical professional accuses him of having a mental disorder? You think he should just take that sitting down?"

Conway furthermore noted that her husband is not a "psychiatrist."

The History Between Donald Trump and George Conway

George Conway's remarks against President Trump are not new or original. Many people who dislike the president have questioned the state of his mental health and fitness to serve as president.

Interestingly enough, it appears as Trump and Conway did not always harbor ill feelings towards one another. 13 years ago, Trump lauded Conway's legal prowess in a situation regarding Trump Tower.

An excerpt from the then-future president's letter to Conway reads as follows:

"I wanted to thank you for your wonderful assistance in ridding Trump World Tower of some very bad people. What I was most impressed with was how quickly you were able to comprehend a very bad situation."
