Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaugh family housekeeper, also died under mysterious circumstances in 2018.
The family said that Satterfield fell down some stairs outside the house. The case was reopened in 2021, and there are questions if her injuries were consistent with a fall.
Satterfield’s death was not reported to the coroner, and no autopsy was performed. Alex Murdaugh is accused of stealing $3.4 million in insurance money meant for Satterfield’s sons after her death.
Stephen Smith, a schoolmate of Alex Murdaugh’s surviving son, Buster Murdaugh, was found dead in a road near Moselle, the Murdaugh’s property in 2015.
While it was initially ruled a hit-and-run, allegations have resurfaced that the Murdaugh family was somehow involved in Smith’s death.
Buster has recently put out a statement claiming these allegations are unfounded. And nothing has been confirmed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
The investigation into these deaths is ongoing, and no official charges have been brought against any members of the Murdaugh family, except for Alex Murdaugh.
