Tom Sizemore “Saving Private Ryan” Star, Dead at 61

According to an interview with the website Decider in 2022, Tom Sizemore, who was born in Detroit, developed a passion for movies from an early age, often watching them with his mother. He was particularly captivated by Robert De Niro’s portrayal in the film Taxi Driver.

“I saw that movie every week for, like, two months when it was playing in the theater,” he said. “I saw it 11 weeks in a row. That’s when I first started thinking, ‘Whatever that is they’re doing up there, I want to be part of it. I want to do that.’ And I started to figure out how to become an actor.”

Tom Sizemore Career

Following his interest in acting, Tom Sizemore pursued theater studies at both Wayne State University and Temple University. After working as a waiter in New York City while trying to establish himself in the industry, Sizemore began to gain traction and was eventually cast in a string of highly acclaimed films.

Tom Sizemore’s career took off in 1989 when he landed minor roles in the Oliver Stone-directed film Born on the Fourth of July, as well as in two early movies by Kathryn Bigelow, Point Break and Blue Steel. He gradually worked his way up to more prominent roles in films such as Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, Passenger 57, True Romance, and Natural Born Killers.
