In a firm display of military resolve, U.S. forces disabled an Iranian-flagged oil tanker on Wednesday morning after it ignored multiple warnings and attempted to breach the American naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the tanker, M/T Hasna, was sailing in international waters toward an Iranian port when its crew failed to comply with repeated orders to turn back. A U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet, launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln, fired several rounds from its 20mm cannon, disabling the vessel’s rudder and bringing it to a halt.

“The U.S. blockade against ships attempting to enter or depart Iranian ports remains in full effect,” CENTCOM stated. “CENTCOM forces continue to act deliberately and professionally to ensure compliance.”

Escalation Amid Diplomatic Progress

The incident comes at a critical moment. Late Tuesday, the Trump administration announced the end of “Project Freedom,” the operation to escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. Reports on Wednesday indicated that Washington and Tehran are closing in on a framework agreement that could end the ongoing conflict.

Despite the apparent progress toward de-escalation, President Trump issued a clear warning: if a deal collapses, the U.S. military stands ready to resume strikes inside Iran. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reinforced this position, stating that U.S. forces are “in a three-point stance and ready to go” at the President’s direction.

This latest enforcement action is part of a broader campaign. Since the blockade began last month, U.S. forces have directed 52 commercial vessels to turn around. In recent weeks, American forces have also intercepted and seized multiple oil tankers linked to Iran and Venezuela.

The Hasna, a massive crude oil tanker measuring over 330 meters long, had been tracked sailing through the Laccadive Sea near the Maldives three weeks earlier.
