Some employees working at Meta are calling critical metaverse projects "make Mark happy" as its CEO Mark Zuckerberg pivots his strategy, according to The New York Times' report on Sunday.
Two workers at tech giant Meta, formerly known as Facebook, told The Times that "make Mark happy" was shortened into the acronym "MMH." They told The Times that some employees had used the acronym as a joke to refer to specific projects involving the metaverse.
According to the Times, Mark Zuckerberg is changing his priorities. At the same time, Meta often reorganizes its workforce and experiences a high turnover of staff, according to The Times, which reported it spoke to over a dozen current and former Meta workers who requested to remain anonymous.
Some Meta workers have become unhappy about the firm altering its strategies frequently rather than sticking to a plan; employees told The Times.
"Being a cynic about new and innovative technology is easy," Meta spokesperson Andy Stone told The Times in a statement. "Actually building it is a lot harder — but that's what we're doing because we believe the metaverse is the future of computing."
Insider's Kali Hays reported that Meta was conducting "quiet layoffs" and telling some employees to find other jobs, which could impact as much as 15% of the social behemoth’s workforce.
