Mental health is a very pressing matter with longstanding societal ramifications. When people's mental health suffers, they're more predisposed to destructive behaviorial patterns which hurt themselves and others. Recent years have seen heightened attention towards mental health and getting support to folks in need of it. However, many people continue to struggle, hence the ongoing debates about collective steps America can take to address the mental health crisis. New polling on mental health is out and it leaves much to be desired. The latest findings reveal that Gen Z is a core demographic struggling with their mental wellbeing.

The poll that everyone should be concerned about

In a joint survey conducted by both the Walton Family Foundation and Gallup, it's come to light that less than 47% of Gen Zers expressed feeling as though they're thriving. On the flip side, just 41% of folks in this generation stated they are doing well. Struggles faced by Gen Z stand out as well. The poll revealed young people in this demographic remain more suspectible to feeling lonely, stressed out, and anxious. Despite the clear troubles Gen Z faces, the news isn't all bad. Additional information from the Walton Family Foundation and Gallup showed that optimism remains strong within America's youth. Over 75% of Gen Z feels as though the future ahead of them is bright. At the same time, just over 50% of this demographic agrees they'll be able to afford higher education opportunities.

What this means for the United States as a whole

The latest findings indicate a clear need for mental health improvements amongst Gen Z. Persistent negative feelings can adversely impact an individual's emotional and even physical wellness. In the worst case scenarios, persistent mental health challenges sometimes pose as factors in mass shootings and other acts of violence in society. All things considered, it may be worth looking into what's happening with Gen Z and how to help this group collectively improve their mental health. At the end of the day, this generation is the future of the United States. How they fare will have longstanding impacts on the nation at large, for better or for worse.
