New Study Reveals Most Likely Groups to Visit Emergency Rooms Due to Assault

Amid October’s standing as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, issues like domestic abuse, assault, and other similar ills continue to garner heightened attention. Understanding these issues, their risk factors, and which people are most vulnerable to them goes a long way toward mitigation.

Many people who face abuse of this nature end up having to go to the emergency room, due to the severity of their sustained injuries. However, a recent study from National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care shines a light on the demographics ending up in the emergency room more often than others.

A closer look at the available data

From 2019 to 2021, research revealed that individuals in the following demographics remain much more likely to arrive in emergency rooms, due to undergoing assault:

  • Black individuals
  • Young individuals
  • Individuals located in metropolitan communities
  • Individuals using programs such as Medicaid

Amid the higher susceptibility rates among these demographics, the data also revealed that midwestern areas in the United States see more emergency room visits than other regions.
