Artificial Intelligence Poses a Double-edged Sword to Cybersecurity

The world at large continues to have various debates centering around artificial intelligence (AI) and whether it's a force to embrace or fear. Some of the top AI-centered issues deal with false positives, its impacts on the workplace, and appropriate regulations.
More people are opting to use AI to simplify various tasks in their personal lives. These tasks may include cleaning their homes, turning lights on/off, and even getting music to play in certain rooms.
However, there's another layer to AI, which happens to be cybersecurity. Reports thus far indicate that a double-edged sword very much exists when it comes to the impacts cybersecurity can face from AI.
An in-depth analysis of the situation
Hackers and other online criminals are very much taking advantage of AI to make their dirty work easier and more effective. In this manner, AI poses a significant risk to cybersecurity. It essentially gives the bad guys more arrows in their quivers.
On the flip side, companies and businesses with a lot to lose also have the option of using AI in a defensive manner. This is going to require cybersecurity specialists to get their hands on various AI tools that can combat the counterparts employed by online hackers.
So far, it's come to light that hackers are employing programs like ChatGPT to expand the dark web, create malware, and more. Some alternate AI uses that various brands might consider include using this technology to detect external threats or internal vulnerabilities.
To some extent, AI already has a presence in current cybersecurity efforts. However, this presence has to continuously evolve and improve with the times.
The bottom line
Artificial intelligence has become a fact of life, at this point. There's no going back. Therefore, the best moves going forward regarding AI are as follows:
- Figuring out how to use AI for good
- Knowing how bad people intend to use AI
- Using AI to counter negative tactics from nefarious characters
- Shaping future AI developments to have maximum positive impacts and minimal negative impacts
Other factors that will influence the future of artificial intelligence include different laws passed in various communities.
