California Cold Case: DNA identified the victim through genetic genealogy in Decades-Old Murders

The sheriff’s office has appealed to the public for any information that could help solve the case. Authorities aim to reconstruct Powers’ life in the ’80s. And are digging into her employment, place of residence, friends, and potential romantic partners. 

While Claudette Powers’ identification represents a significant milestone, justice remains elusive. 

The sheriff’s office is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of her killer.

Investigators hope to identify the male victim found in close proximity to Powers. The similarities in their age, attire, and circumstances suggest a potential connection between the two. 

With Powers’ identification made, law enforcement hopes that these decades-old murders may finally be solved. And the families may finally get long-awaited justice.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit and San Diego County Crime Stoppers are asking for help.
