A CIA trainee has come forward with disturbing allegations of sexual assault and subsequent mistreatment by the agency in a federal lawsuit.

 The anonymous trainee has accused the CIA of witness tampering and "slut shaming" after she reported the harrowing attack, which took place at the agency's headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in federal district court in Washington, revolves around the agency's response to the traumatic incident that occurred in July 2022.

According to the trainee, she was cornered in a stairwell at the CIA headquarters by another trainee who proceeded to choke her with a scarf. During the attack, the assailant subjected her to lewd remarks and attempted to forcibly kiss her.

Remarkably, the trainee managed to fend off her assailant in the stairwell, but the ordeal did not end there. Her attacker relentlessly pursued her to an office, where he forcibly kissed her, as detailed in the lawsuit. Furthermore, prior to the assault, the assailant sent her a barrage of obscene messages through a private messaging system employed within the agency.

This lawsuit follows the conviction of CIA trainee Ashkan Bayatpour, who, in August, was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery in a Fairfax, Virginia, courtroom. The woman had reported the attack to local law enforcement, leading to the legal proceedings against Bayatpour.

The case involving Bayatpour has drawn significant attention due to its rarity in breaking through the CIA's typically impenetrable veil of secrecy. It has played out in a public courtroom, shedding light on a reckoning regarding sexual misconduct within the intelligence agency.

This revelation has brought to the forefront a previously concealed issue within the CIA, with at least two-dozen women coming forward in recent months.

These women have shared their own accounts of abusive treatment within the agency, which include allegations of sexual assaults, unwanted physical contact, and coercion.

More alarmingly, they have alleged a concerted effort by the CIA to silence them, employing dire warnings that speaking out could jeopardize their careers and even national security.

Bayatpour, who received a sentence of six months probation, is currently appealing his conviction. At the time of reporting, his lawyer has not provided an immediate response to requests for comment.

The case continues to generate significant public interest and scrutiny, with questions arising about the culture and practices within the CIA, as well as the treatment of victims who dare to report abuse within the organization.
