A CIA trainee has come forward with disturbing allegations of sexual assault and subsequent mistreatment by the agency in a federal lawsuit.
The anonymous trainee has accused the CIA of witness tampering and “slut shaming” after she reported the harrowing attack, which took place at the agency’s headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in federal district court in Washington, revolves around the agency’s response to the traumatic incident that occurred in July 2022.
According to the trainee, she was cornered in a stairwell at the CIA headquarters by another trainee who proceeded to choke her with a scarf. During the attack, the assailant subjected her to lewd remarks and attempted to forcibly kiss her.
Remarkably, the trainee managed to fend off her assailant in the stairwell, but the ordeal did not end there. Her attacker relentlessly pursued her to an office, where he forcibly kissed her, as detailed in the lawsuit. Furthermore, prior to the assault, the assailant sent her a barrage of obscene messages through a private messaging system employed within the agency.
