House Hearing Postponed For Trump’s NY Prosecutors : Hearing Rescheduled

Initially set for Friday, the hearing before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government has been rescheduled to Sept. 18. This delay allows time for both parties to discuss whether the U.S. Supreme Court’s June ruling—granting ex-presidents immunity from official acts—affects Trump’s conviction.

A source confirmed to Law360 on Monday the news reported by NBC about the delay of the House hearing.

House Hearing Postponed For Trump’s NY Prosecutors : Background on Trump’s Conviction

Trump’s conviction in May by a New York jury, which he plans to appeal, came after testimony revealed his scheme to illegally influence the 2016 presidential election. This was done by concealing hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Despite the historic verdict, Republicans argue that the justice system is biased against Trump, offering no evidence to substantiate their claims.

 Statements from Key Figures

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chair of the House Judiciary Committee and its Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, demanded Bragg and Colangelo testify. In his May 31 letter, Jordan emphasized the hearing’s focus on state and local prosecutors engaging in what he described as politically motivated prosecutions of federal officials, specifically highlighting Trump’s case.
