On Friday, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy introduced a bill to finance President Donald Trump's promised Southern border wall, reports The Hill.

An Overview of the 'Build the Wall, Enforce the Law' Bill

Dubbed as 'Build the Wall, Enforce the Law,' the proposed act offers the provision of $23.4 billion in order to create the wall on the border between America and Mexico. Furthermore, the success of the bill would grant $5.5 billion in readily available funds. The first $16.6 billion would cover physical barricades. The rest of the funds would subsequently pay for infrastructure, technology, and operations fees.

In a statement, McCarthy explained the importance of passing 'Build the Wall, Enforce the Law.'

"For decades, America's inability to secure our borders and stop illegal immigration has encouraged millions to undertake a dangerous journey. [They have] come here in violation of our laws and created huge loopholes in the legal channels we use to welcome immigrants to our country."

The House Majority Leader then referred to the election of President Trump as a "wake-up call." McCarthy furthermore stated that Americans want Congress to "build the wall and enforce the law."

More on the Border Wall and Legal Immigration

House Speaker Paul Ryan has affirmed that Congress will take steps to secure America's borders. Last week, Ryan stated that members of Congress will have a "full-fledged discussion about how to complete this mission of securing our border." The House Speaker moreover noted that a "big fight" will take place, although Republicans will "figure it out" by December.

President Trump has previously requested the provision of $25 billion in order to fund his Southern border wall.

Legal immigration served as a central theme of the president's 2016 campaign. Then-candidate Trump noted the plights and pitfalls of illegal immigration. He also explained that law and order is a central component of a prosperous nation. The enforcement of lawful immigration is a policy which resonated with many of the president's supporters.

Many of President Trump's critics have opined that legal immigration is a front for discrimination against brown and Mexican immigrants. However, the president and his base have pushed back against these claims. Right-leaning Americans have furthermore expressed concerns that Democrats routinely benefit from the unlawful votes of illegal immigrants.
