A raging inferno erupted Thursday afternoon at a large medical supply distribution center in Tracy, California, forcing evacuations and prompting a major multi-agency response as flames threatened to spread to nearby warehouses belonging to Amazon, FedEx, and Best Buy.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. in the 5700 block of Promontory Parkway at the Medline Inc. facility, about 62 miles south of Sacramento. By 3 p.m., the building was fully engulfed, with thick plumes of dark smoke visible for miles around the city.

Authorities are coordinating with the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority and mutual aid from several surrounding departments, including Stockton, Mountain House, Lathrop-Manteca, and Alameda County. Police have emphasized that there is currently “no threat to residents,” but evacuations are underway for safety as the situation develops.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no injuries have been reported so far.
