“Money” Mayweather Is Running Out of It: A $1 Billion Career, A Jet He Didn’t Pay For, And A Growing Mountain of Lawsuits

Floyd Mayweather built a career on the nickname "Money." Now a private jet company, the IRS, his landlord, and multiple creditors are all asking the same question: where did it all go?

Let's be clear about something from the jump. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the greatest fighters who ever lived — undefeated, masterful, a man who turned boxing into a business like no one before him. He earned over a billion dollars doing it. That's not in dispute.

What is in dispute — and what the courts are now lined up to sort out — is where that money went. Because right now, the man who once pulled up to weigh-ins with duffel bags full of cash is getting sued by a private jet company over an unpaid $105,690 tab. And that's just the latest.

The jet lawsuit, explained

Jet Set Aircraft filed suit in Los Angeles County against Mayweather, his jewelry consultant Jona Rechnitz, and several other defendants over an alleged $105,690 unpaid charter flight to Turks and Caicos that took place in September 2025. The company is seeking the full amount plus punitive damages and is not backing down.

The complaint claims Mayweather and his team assured the company they would pay but never honored their commitment. The filing outlines a series of claims, including breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraud, arguing that the defendants accepted the services but failed to fulfill their payment obligations.

The suit alleges that Rechnitz was aware Mayweather had a pattern of taking goods and services without paying for them. That's not just a legal argument — it's an allegation that paints a picture of someone who has made a habit of living large on other people's dime. Rechnitz, for his part, is no stranger to legal trouble himself, having previously pleaded guilty to honest-services fraud for bribing public officials.

"We have made every effort to resolve this matter amicably with Mr. Mayweather's team, but they have left us no choice but to file this lawsuit to recover the money that is rightfully owed to us."

— Jet Set Aircraft Inc., per court filings

This isn't a one-time problem — it's a pattern

This jet lawsuit doesn't exist in a vacuum. It is the latest item on a legal docket that has been filling up fast. Here's the running tab:

$105,690

Jet Set Aircraft Inc. — unpaid private charter to Turks & Caicos - Filed April 2026, Los Angeles County

$330,000

NYC luxury condo landlord — unpaid rent since July 2025 Lease signed December 2024; payments stopped mid-2025

$7,300,000

IRS federal tax lien — unpaid taxes covering 2018 and 2023 Lien filed March 2026

$4,000,000+

Florida jeweler — Mayweather & Rechnitz, settlement dispute - One of three separate lawsuits filed in February 2026

$1,500,000

Logan Paul — claims Mayweather still owes him from their 2021 exhibition - Long standing, unresolved claim

Documented legal exposure (minimum)

$13M+

And he already sold his Gulfstream jet, his Beverly Hills mansion, and his Miami mansion to raise cash. The man who once owned the jet is now the man who can't pay for a charter flight.

The Instagram post that said everything

While the rent was going unpaid on his NYC luxury condo and creditors were lining up at the courthouse, Mayweather was active on Instagram. He posted a photo of himself sitting on a private jet — surrounded by stacks of cash — with a caption that's going to be Exhibit A in the court of public opinion for a very long time.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

@floydmayweather  ·  Instagram

"I just be minding my business."

Posted while allegedly owing rent, IRS taxes, jewelry bills, and a private jet charter fee.

Look, I understand the art of the flex. But there's a point where posting stacks of cash while your creditors are filing suit stops being a power move and starts being evidence. And right now, Floyd is dangerously close to that line.

Mayweather's version of events

To be fair — and I believe in being fair — Mayweather has pushed back on the narrative that he's broke. He has filed a $340 million lawsuit against Showtime Networks, claiming that hundreds of millions from his career earnings were diverted by his former manager Al Haymon into third-party accounts. Showtime has called the claims baseless. He has also filed a separate defamation suit against Business Insider.

If Mayweather's allegations against Haymon and Showtime are true, this story has a very different shape — a man who was defrauded of his own fortune fighting back against those who took it. But that case still has to be proven in court. In the meantime, the lawsuits against him are real, documented, and multiplying.

The comeback plan — and whether it can save him

Mayweather clearly sees the fight game as his way back. A rematch against Manny Pacquiao has been set for September on Netflix. Their 2015 matchup generated roughly $600 million in revenue, so the logic of going back to that well makes sense on paper. But there are already complications: Pacquiao's camp says Mayweather took upfront money, signed for a pro fight, and is now trying to change the terms, putting the 2026 rematch in jeopardy.

He's also reportedly planning an exhibition against Mike Tyson. Logan Paul has separately questioned whether he'll ever receive the balance of what he's owed from their 2021 exhibition match. When the people you're supposed to fight next are also questioning whether you'll honor your financial commitments, that's a problem that goes beyond one unpaid jet bill.

The bottom line

I'm not here to celebrate anyone's downfall. Floyd Mayweather's career was a masterpiece. What he built inside the ring — and the business empire he constructed around it — was genuinely extraordinary. But the story we're watching right now, outside the ring, is a cautionary tale that every athlete, entertainer, and entrepreneur needs to study.

You can earn a billion dollars and still end up in court over a $105,000 jet bill. You can be undefeated your entire career and still lose the financial fight. The scorecards don't always favor "Money" — and right now, the judges are wearing IRS badges and holding court filings.

We'll keep watching this one closely.
