Adams, a former police captain and a Democrat, spoke out on Friday, stating he has “nothing to hide” and expects all members of his staff to follow the law.

The investigation’s focus remains undisclosed, but a search warrant obtained by The New York Times suggests scrutiny of whether the Adams campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive donations from foreign sources through straw donors.

The warrant also seeks information about Adams’ utilization of New York City’s matching funds program, which provides candidates with an eightfold match of a city resident’s first donations.
