Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority (PWSA) Faces Criminal Charges over Lead Pipe Replacement

The authority could pay a penalty of not less than $1,259 or not more than $12,500 for each count of criminal charge.

According to Shapiro, he made an arrangement in which the penalty PWSA will ultimately pay will be used on programs that will protect and improve the public health in Pittsburgh.

Shapiro said, “This money isn’t going to a fund in Harrisburg – it’s coming back here to neighborhoods like Lawrenceville that were affected by these violations. “I hope that, with these charges, we can shine a light on these violations and force the necessary reforms to take shape to keep Pittsburgh’s drinking water safe.”
