The nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards were announced on Friday. The awards ceremony, scheduled for February, will see top stars compete in 94 categories, with Beyoncé leading the way.
Beyoncé Dominates Grammy List with Country Album Success
Multi-millionaire music icon Beyoncé received 11 Grammy nominations, including a nod for Album of the Year for her country music album, Cowboy Carter. This album made history as the first by a Black woman to top the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Despite its popularity, however, Cowboy Carter was ignored in the Country Music Awards nominations in September.
Beyoncé was also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year with her single “Texas Hold ‘Em.” This brings her lifetime Grammy nominations to an impressive 99, surpassing her husband Jay-Z, who has 88.
Following her lead, artists Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone each earned seven nominations. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, recent billionaire and Grammy favorite with four Album of the Year wins, is in the running yet again. Her breakup-themed album The Tortured Poets Department was nominated in the coveted category. Rising artists Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter also came out strong, each securing six nominations.
Women Take the Lead in Album of the Year
Female artists are dominating the highly competitive Album of the Year category with only two male nominees in the category. Andre 3000 was nominated for his album New Blue Sun, and jazz musician Jacob Collier for Djesse Vol. 4. Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter and Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department will compete for the Grammy. Others include Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, Charli XCX’s Brat, Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, and Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
