The ongoing violence in Sinaloa has drawn renewed attention after revelations that relatives of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán have crossed into the United States.
This appears to be part of a negotiated deal tied to the arrest and guilty plea of his son, Ovidio Guzmán López.
El Chapo’s Family Crosses the Border
Mexico’s Secretary of Security, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, confirmed that 17 family members of Ovidio Guzmán, including his mother, siblings, and El Chapo’s former wife, entered the U.S. recently.
According to El País, the family’s departure was likely coordinated with U.S. authorities.
Rodríguez described the move as a possible part of “ongoing legal processes,” signaling high-level coordination between U.S. and Mexican law enforcement. She did not confirm whether the crossing was directly related to a plea deal but stated, “They left through legal channels and with protection.”

Ovidio Guzmán’s Guilty Plea Fuels Speculation
The development follows Ovidio Guzmán López’s guilty plea to drug trafficking charges in a U.S. federal court earlier this year.
