Widespread Spectrum outages hit the Los Angeles area on June 15 and 16, leaving thousands without internet, cable, or phone service. The company confirmed the disruption was “caused by a criminal act of vandalism,” according to a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Fiber Cut in Van Nuys Blamed for Service Disruptions
Spectrum acknowledged the outages in a public statement posted at 2:13 p.m. PT on June 16, on X:
“We are currently working on a fiber cut affecting the Los Angeles area. We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Thank you.”
The company later confirmed to CNN that the incident involved intentional vandalism in Van Nuys. The fiber cut impacted not just Los Angeles but also extended to surrounding areas like Ventura and cities in Orange County, including Anaheim and Santa Ana.
According to DownDetector, more than 25,000 users reported issues with the Spectrum service. Users began experiencing problems as early as 3 a.m. Pacific Time on June 15, with major spikes occurring around 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
