Hair care giant John Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS) has announced plans to move to Texas, relocating its corporate headquarters from Santa Clarita, California, to Wilmer, a small but growing Dallas suburb.
The move, announced by Governor Greg Abbott, will create 80 new jobs and generate more than $12 million in capital investment. JPMS will also operate a global distribution center in the new location.
This high-profile relocation adds to a growing trend of California-based companies migrating to Texas in search of a more favorable business climate.
Why Businesses Leave California for Texas
Once a dominant hub of innovation and commerce, California is losing its edge due to high taxes, costly regulations, and a rising cost of living. Companies like JPMS are part of a broader migration seeking economic efficiency, legal clarity, and social stability.
“California’s innovation ecosystem has allowed businesses to flourish, but recent years have shown serious weaknesses,” says business analyst Laura Trent. “Texas is capitalizing on that vulnerability.”
