WASHINGTON, D.C. — Jared Isaacman, the administrator of NASA, says the space agency possesses images of unidentified objects that scientists have not yet been able to explain. The NASA chief discussed the mysterious imagery while emphasizing scientific evidence over speculation. He also stressed that unexplained observations shouldn't automatically be interpreted as evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Isaacman made the remarks during a June 30 podcast interview with host Jack Gordon, saying NASA has collected imagery that continues to puzzle researchers. His comments come as the federal government has increased public access to records involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), the official term now used in place of UFOs.

Although Isaacman acknowledged the existence of unexplained images, he reiterated NASA's longstanding position that the agency has not found credible evidence proving any unidentified object is of alien origin.

During the interview, Isaacman said some NASA observations remain unresolved despite extensive scientific analysis.

"We have captured imagery and this is what President Trump is very forward-leaning about—that, based on the data that we have within that imagery, we don't know what it is," Isaacman said.

His comments have generated renewed interest in UFO investigations, but Isaacman emphasized that "unidentified" simply means scientists have not yet reached a conclusion based on available evidence.

NASA Says UFO's Simply Unexplained

NASA has repeatedly stated that many unexplained sightings eventually receive conventional explanations after additional data becomes available, while a smaller number remain unresolved because of insufficient information rather than proof of extraordinary phenomena.

The agency's scientific approach is to continue collecting better observations instead of drawing conclusions unsupported by evidence.

Who is Jared Isaacman?

Isaacman is a billionaire entrepreneur, accomplished pilot and commercial astronaut best known as the founder of Shift4 Payments. He also founded Draken International, a company that provides tactical aircraft services for military training.

In recent years, Isaacman has become one of the most recognizable figures in commercial spaceflight through his partnership with SpaceX. He commanded the Inspiration4 mission in 2021, the first all-civilian orbital mission, and later led the Polaris Dawn mission, which included the world's first commercial spacewalk.

President Donald Trump selected Isaacman to lead NASA, citing his experience as both a business executive and private astronaut. Since taking office, Isaacman has promoted greater cooperation between NASA and the commercial space industry while maintaining the agency's focus on deep-space exploration, lunar missions and eventually sending astronauts to Mars.

NASA under President Trump has continued prioritizing human space exploration while placing renewed emphasis on beating China back to the Moon through the Artemis program.

The administration has supported plans to establish a sustained American presence on the lunar surface before eventually launching crewed missions to Mars. Isaacman has repeatedly described the competition with China as a defining strategic challenge for NASA during the coming decade.

At the same time, the administration has encouraged stronger partnerships with commercial aerospace companies, arguing that private industry can help reduce costs while accelerating technological development.

NASA has continued investing in projects including the Artemis Moon program, the Lunar Gateway station, advanced lunar landers, robotic exploration missions and preparations for future Mars expeditions.

Searching for life beyond Earth

Isaacman said one of NASA's most important scientific goals is answering one of humanity's oldest questions: Are we alone in the universe?

"I think there's a very real possibility we're going to arrive at a conclusion in our lifetime that perhaps there's life everywhere out there and that it isn't as infrequent as it could possibly be," he said.

He added that the possibility of discovering life elsewhere is one of the primary motivations behind many of NASA's scientific missions.

"I can't hate the subject," Isaacman said. "In fact, I'm incredibly fascinated by it because that is at the heart of what we're trying to do at NASA—answer the question, 'Are we alone?'"

Scientists continue searching for evidence of life using observatories such as the James Webb Space Telescope while robotic missions explore Mars and other destinations throughout the solar system.

Trump administration expands UAP transparency

Isaacman also discussed efforts by the Trump administration to make government information about unidentified anomalous phenomena more accessible.

He referenced the Pentagon's continued release of records through the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE), saying there has been a greater willingness to allow outside researchers and the public to examine government data.

According to Isaacman, previous administrations often kept reports within government archives, while current policy encourages broader public review whenever national security concerns allow.

Despite the additional disclosures, no released documents have provided definitive evidence that any reported UAP represents extraterrestrial technology.

Instead, officials continue evaluating each incident individually using available sensor data, witness testimony and intelligence analysis.

Mars may provide the first evidence

Isaacman suggested that some of NASA's strongest evidence regarding extraterrestrial life could eventually come from Mars rather than unidentified objects seen in Earth's skies.

NASA's Perseverance rover has collected rock and soil samples that scientists hope will eventually be returned to Earth through a future Mars Sample Return mission. Those samples could reveal whether microbial life once existed on the Red Planet.

"We got samples on Mars right now," Isaacman said. "If we bring them back, there is a very high probability that they will point to, at some point, microbial life at least on Mars."

While researchers continue analyzing unexplained aerial observations, NASA officials maintain that the agency's conclusions will continue to rely on scientific evidence, peer-reviewed research and verifiable data rather than speculation.
