A British gambler has reportedly staked $5 million on President Donald Trump winning the 2020 presidential election — a bet touted as the biggest-ever political wager ever made.

The British man, who is a former banker, reportedly utilized sportsbooks registered on Curacao in the Caribbean island for the bet at odds of 37/20. He could receive a $15 million payout.

A betting industry source told UK paper The Sun, “Word of this bet has done the rounds and we think it’s the biggest ever made on politics.”

The U.S. presidential race has proved to be a boom for bookies abroad. While betting on politics is illegal in the country, it is popular in the UK and several other countries.

Netizens took to Twitter to ask the businessman about his bet in the wake of several media outlets projecting Democrat Joe Biden the winner of the race after taking Pennsylvania. The Trump campaign has since mounted a legal defense to challenge this.
