The prosecutor, in response, asserted that the decision rested with the grand jury.

Reverend Todd Johnson, a prominent figure in the reproductive rights movement, expressed gratitude for the decision. He also emphasized the need for improved understanding and sensitivity in law enforcement’s approach to pregnancy complications.

Physician Public Outcry

Physicians, both locally and through Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights (OPRR), questioned the original charges.

In a letter dated December 15th, OPRR called on Prosecutor Watkins to drop the felony abuse of a corpse charge against Watts.

The letter highlighted the potential repercussions on women’s health, arguing that the criminalization of miscarriages could deter individuals from seeking necessary medical attention.
