As the clock strikes 12:53 a.m. ET, the moon will align almost perfectly with the sun and Earth, ushering in the penumbral eclipse.

Though the moon’s glow will be slightly dimmed, its ethereal beauty remains undiminished. 

Dr. Shannon Schmoll, director of the Abrams Planetarium at Michigan State University, describes how the eclipse will manifest as a soft gradient of darkening that will be discernible by keen observers.

The spectacle of the Worm Moon will be visible for most regions graced by the night’s embrace. In Europe, North and East Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, and South America the penumbral moon will adorn the sky for all to admire.

Eclipse season is a celestial symphony orchestrated by the cosmic ballet of the Sun, Earth, and Moon. Every six months it unfurls its magic. There is a 35-day window of celestial alignments, culminating in breathtaking lunar and solar eclipses.
