GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, the son of a Cuban immigrant, pointed this out in response to Omar’s remarks:
As the son of a Cuban immigrant whose Dad came to get a math degree & become a computer programmer, I’m troubled that Dems seem to believe Hispanic immigrants can’t qualify for skills-based legal immigration. Bringing in more scientists, engineers & doctors is good for US jobs. https://t.co/iugniZgJtL

Omar furthermore received flak from other Americans who comprehended the inferences of her tweet:
So Ms. Smarty Pants @ilhanmn deleted her tweet, cuz she finally realized that in accusing the President of raaaaaaaaaaacism, she was sounding mighty raaaaaaaaaacist herself. pic.twitter.com/10ojMOpHl2

Immigration to the United States of America
Many people have stated that the real racists are those who see racism wherever they go. From a purely objective standpoint, merit-based immigration is not a racist policy. Immigration to the United States is a privilege, not a right. Furthermore, seeing as immigration is a privilege, nations which permit it have the right to enact various stipulations; this includes the United States.
