Late Thursday night, tragedy struck the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Brighton Heights when a young woman, Danasia Lighty, was discovered inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. The heartbreaking incident took place near an elementary school, further amplifying the shockwaves through the community.  Rapid Response to ShotSpotter Alert

Officers and firefighters raced to the scene after a 12-round ShotSpotter detection near the junction of Fleming and Falck avenues, a burstiness of sirens cutting through the quiet of the night. Upon their arrival, they found the 25-year-old Pittsburgh native, Lighty, grievously injured inside her vehicle.

The vicinity of the incident was unsettlingly close to Pittsburgh Public’s Morrow Elementary School, a place of learning now shadowed by this recent tragedy. Analogous to an alarm interrupting a deep sleep, the shooting near such a place meant for growth and development jolted the entire neighborhood.

Firefighters quickly stepped in, providing crucial initial aid until the medics took charge. The swift transition of care exemplifies the well-oiled machinery of Pittsburgh's emergency response, but tragically, even their best efforts couldn't turn the tide for the gravely injured Lighty.

As per initial findings, an unidentified suspect approached Lighty's car on foot. Danasia Lighty's untimely death was confirmed by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner. She succumbed to her injuries at Allegheny General Hospital at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, marking a sorrowful conclusion to a night of tumult.
