Serial Killings in Dallas: Murder Suspect Arrested

serial killings in Dallas

In a significant development, an arrest has been made in the string of serial killings that have haunted Dallas in recent months.

The murder suspect, identified as 25-year-old Oscar Sanchez Garcia, was taken into custody on July 19. He is facing multiple murder charges according to Dallas County jail records. His bail is set at $4million.

Three women were murdered within three months.

Kimberly Robinson, 60, was found dead on April 22. Her body was found in an open field south of downtown Dallas the police department said.

Cherish Gibson, 25, was found on the same block as Robinson on June 24. A fisherman found her partly nude body roughly 200 yards from where Robinson had been found, according to the affidavit.

Gibson had also been stabbed. Her cellphone was later found in a field about 1.5 miles from her body, according to the affidavit.

31-year-old DeBrenese Henry was the third woman found stabbed to death. She was discovered on July 15 near the Trinity River less than 2 miles from where Gibson was found.

Police were able to connect Garcia to each of the cases through a combination of video evidence, phone records, and data obtained from a license plate reader.

Garcia's vehicle and phone records were allegedly traced to the locations where the victims were last seen alive and where their lifeless bodies were discovered. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, DNA evidence from all three sexual assault kits was employed to link Garcia to the crimes.

Serial Killings after Domestic Violence

On March 13, Garcia was apprehended for assaulting his girlfriend, reportedly striking her four times in the face during a heated argument over using his bank card to buy diapers.

The arrest documents noted that the girlfriend sustained lacerations and swelling on her face as a result of the incident. Garcia's arrest for a family violence assault causing bodily injury was classified as a misdemeanor.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) has come under scrutiny for failing to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when they arrested Garcia for the assault.

According to department spokespersons, the arrest did not meet the threshold for notifying ICE officials, as it was categorized as a misdemeanor without the involvement of weapons and due to Garcia's previously clean record. Under the DPD's general orders, officers have the discretion to notify ICE about arrests but are not mandated to do so.

Victims' Families want justice

Meanwhile, the families of the victims have expressed their anguish over Garcia's prior release and have voiced concerns that there may be additional victims yet to be discovered. Dallas police revealed that all three victims were linked to prostitution.

As the investigation into the Dallas serial killings continues, the arrest of Oscar Sanchez Garcia represents a significant step toward justice for the victims and their families, while also raising important questions about law enforcement procedures and immigrant enforcement policies.
