The GOP is urging action against Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Mn) after federal filings show Rep. Omar's 2020 campaign contributed to just under 80% of the total political payments Tim Mynett received ahead of the November elections.

Mynett's firm, E Street Group, received over $3.7 million in campaign spending throughout the 2020 election cycle.

Of that total, Rep Omar's campaign shows more than $2.9 million dollars in funding being funneled directly to his company, cited the Federal Election Commission filings. The Congresswoman's contributions made up over 78% of E Street Group's total payments and profits between January 2019 and November 2020.

There was no response to inquiries for a comment from either party.

In November 2020, Omar publically announced she would be severing ties with her husband's company, E Street Group, following her re-election. However, federal campaign finance filings showed an additional payment of $138,000 prior to severing those ties.

Additionally, amid the pandemic bailouts to sure up firms in trouble of closing their doors, E Street Group received nearly $135,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and $500,000 in Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

This occurred while millions of unemployed professionals and families were waiting with baited breath in the hopes of extended unemployment and a second stimulus check.

Fox News reported, "Campaign finance filings also show that the firm raked in millions during the 2020 campaign from Omar. The payments included $110,000 for digital advertising split in three payouts: $5,000 for digital consulting, $12,000 for fundraising consulting, and more than $11,000 for digital and literature production between late October and the day after the general election."

"The bailout loans are intended to provide relief to small businesses that have been economically hard-hit by coronavirus lockdowns. E Street Group’s LinkedIn profile states that it has between 11 and 50 employees," however, the firm received steady income and work from 'Squad members'.

Federal Election Commission filings also show that the firm received payments for other campaigns, including $175,000 from the committee of Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., and nearly $130,000 from the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.

Omar pledged in mid-November that she was cutting ties with her husband’s firm and the payments were made before that. Before their marriage in March, Mynett’s firm was already doing work for Omar’s campaign.

Omar said in a mid-November email that she was cutting ties with the firm to put an end to questions about the connection between her campaign and his business.

She has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in respect to her relationship with Mynett, despite court filings from Mynett's ex-wife and concerns over inappropriate spending to further Mynett and Omar's extra-marital affair.

In the filings, Beth Mynett stated that dates and travel expenses paid for by Omar's campaign lines up with their involvement which led to the couple's divorce.

Moreover, this is not the first time that Rep. Omar has run into a sticky situation with campaign finance issues. An order required her to reimbursed her campaign $3,500 and pay a $500 fine for violating state regulations while serving as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Wisconsin Reps. Tom Tiffany and Mike Gallagher introduced the Oversight for Members And Relatives Act, or the OMAR Act, in response to reports of Omar’s, potentially unethical behaviors and to stop widespread campaign funneling to family members and spouses which politicians have become accustomed to.
