It has been a wild ride at Twitter since billionaire Elon Musk took over on October 27th. On Friday CBS left Twitter and then returned within 48 hours. On Saturday, the Twitter account of Trump was reinstated after being banned for 22 months. 

There has been lots of criticism about how Musk is running Twitter. He is doing exactly what he promised to do when bought the company.

Tweeting again: Trump was reinstated  

Twitter’s new owner set up a “yes or no” poll asking if Trump should be allowed back on the social media platform. The results of the user poll were 51.8% yes and 48.2% no. 

Musk said the poll was getting one million votes per hour. And that there was definitely some "bot and troll armies" activity.

Trump said he had no interest in returning to Twitter. And he would stay on his own platform, Truth Social.

Last week Twitter reinstated some other accounts that had been banned. And Trump was only the tip of the iceberg.

Musk welcomed back comedian Kathy Griffin, Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye, author Jordan Peterson and satire site the Babylon Bee.

 Trump was reinstated and he wasn't alone. There were hundreds of previously banned users that weren’t as high-profile that are tweeting again.

 A number of conservative leaning accounts that got banned when they got more than a million views on a post were allowed back on the social media platform. And dozens of doctors that held opposing opinions to the CDC were greenlighted again.

News that fifty-eight percent of coronavirus deaths in August were people who were vaccinated or boosted was issued by Kaiser Family Foundation. This simple fact would have more than likely not been allowed on Twitter a month ago.

CBS has concerns

It was announced in a segment, titled “Twitter Turmoil that CBS News and its affiliates were pausing Twitter usage out of “security concerns” and doubts of Elon Musk’s leadership. 

The managing editor of NewsBusters Curtis Houck tweeted out, “Pure idiocy from CBS News. Don’t whine then about why people don’t trust you when they can’t find you in the 21st century’s public square.”

He added, “CBS News quitting Twitter because they think @ElonMusk will allow hackers or something into their accounts is so weak. This is so stupid my head hurts.”

Then in an about-face CBS announced they were back on Sunday.

The network sent out word that it would return to the platform after less than 48 hours in a since-deleted tweet.

“After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation,” CBS News tweeted.

Is Musk having the last laugh?

In typical Musk fashion the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX responded to the CBS announcement by tweeting a laughing emoji.
