When Elon Musk purchased Twitter last year, he revealed that some changes would come to the platform. Musk vowed to make Twitter better than ever and also expand the number of currently active users.

One of the most significant changes to pass just so happens to be Twitter Blue. In a nutshell, Twitter Blue is a program where users pay $8 per month to have their accounts “verified” with a blue checkmark.

The Twitter Blue program has faced criticism from those who believe that letting anyone pay for a verification checkmark defeats the original purpose and value associated with these checkmarks in the first place.

In addition to Twitter Blue, there are other checkmarks that various businesses can pay for to have authentication on the platform.

Gold checkmarks for companies, as an example, cost a lavish $1,000 per month. However, a growing number of these companies are saying no deal and no payment.

Rejection of Twitter Blue and similar programs

Towards the end of March, Twitter announced that it would start revoking checkmarks from already verified accounts that existed ahead of Musk’s purchase of the platform.
