Police in Royal Oak, Michigan, announced Tuesday the arrest of a Dearborn personal injury attorney, Levi Trahern Smith, after he allegedly attempted to break into a former co-worker’s home while armed with a firearm, knife, handcuffs, and other “concerning items.”
The incident occurred on June 1, when a woman awoke around 1:20 a.m. to see a man attempting to enter her home through a side door. The woman activated a panic alarm, prompting the man to try to walk away. He was “immediately confronted by two Royal Oak patrol officers,” according to a statement from the Royal Oak Police Department.
The man, identified as 34-year-old Smith, was found wearing latex gloves and carrying a backpack containing a loaded handgun, a large knife, handcuffs, rope, masks, a hammer, a crowbar, duct tape, and additional latex gloves.
Police learned that Smith was a former co-worker of the woman and had previously expressed a romantic interest in her.
Smith is facing charges of felony firearm possession and attempted home invasion, which could result in up to seven years of imprisonment. He was arraigned on Tuesday, and his bond was set at $25,000.
