Authorities in Minneapolis have released surveillance footage tied to the north Minneapolis ICE shooting, shedding partial light on a controversial January incident that has already been marred by false testimony and federal scrutiny.

Officers Accused of False Testimony

The video’s release comes nearly two months after two agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were placed on leave for lying under oath about the encounter involving Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis.

Initially, both the agents and the Department of Homeland Security claimed that Sosa-Celis and another individual had attacked officers with a shovel and broomstick. That narrative later unraveled, prompting federal prosecutors to drop assault charges against the two men.

Footage Captures Chaos, Leaves Key Questions

The newly released footage, recorded by a city-owned camera roughly half a block away, offers a distant and silent glimpse into the confrontation. It shows a federal agent tackling a man and engaging in a struggle on the ground. However, due to the video’s limited clarity and lack of audio, the exact moment of the shooting remains unclear—though officials confirm it is captured.

A man holding a shovel appears briefly in the video, but crucially discards it before the agent approaches. The tool remains on the ground throughout the altercation, undercutting earlier claims of an active हमला.

The nine-minute clip begins with a vehicle mounting a sidewalk, followed by a foot chase involving what appears to be a federal officer. Additional law enforcement personnel are later seen converging on the scene after the shooting.

City officials made the footage public but declined to provide further interpretation or commentary.

Broader Pattern of Federal Shootings

The incident occurred on Jan. 14 near North Sixth Street and North 24th Avenue, when an ICE officer shot Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan national, in the leg. The event unfolded amid a troubling سلسلة of federal use-of-force cases in the city.

In response, Keith Ellison, alongside Mary Moriarty and Drew Evans, has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration. The legal action accuses the U.S. Department of Justice and Homeland Security of obstructing state investigators by denying access to critical evidence tied to all three shootings.
