His departure comes after sixteen years of service, arriving at a particularly volatile moment for the Prancing Horse. The timing of this resignation has raised eyebrows across the industry, as it occurs only weeks after the polarizing unveiling of the Luce, Ferrari’s first-ever fully electric supercar.

A Legacy Left Behind

Enrico Galliera has been a cornerstone of the Ferrari executive team since 2010. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping the brand's image and managing the exclusive, highly sought-after process of determining which elite clients were deemed worthy of purchasing the firm's most limited production vehicles.

His resume is decorated with historic milestones for the Maranello-based manufacturer. Galliera was instrumental in the 2013 launch of the LaFerrari, the company’s inaugural production hybrid hypercar that successfully bridged the gap between traditional internal combustion engines and electrified performance. Furthermore, he was at the helm during the company's major financial transitions, including its high-profile listings on the New York Stock Exchange in 2015 and the Milan stock exchange shortly thereafter.

The Luce Controversy

While the company maintains that Galliera’s decision to move on was a personal choice shared with the firm some time ago, it is impossible to ignore the context of the recent weeks. In May, Ferrari unveiled the Luce, a vehicle designed to signal the brand's bold transition into a fully electric future. Instead of a triumphant celebration, the reveal was met with a wave of intense criticism and viral skepticism.

The aesthetic of the Luce, which was developed in collaboration with legendary former Apple designer Sir Jony Ive, failed to resonate with many traditionalists and critics. The design choices sparked a firestorm of negative commentary online, quickly devolving into a sea of internet memes and public mockery.

The backlash was not confined to social media. Notable figures, including Ferrari’s former chairman and even Italy’s own Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister, Matteo Salvini, voiced their disapproval regarding the new design direction.
