DHL Orders 1,000 More Stretch Robots
Boston Dynamics is also making a mark in logistics automation.
In May 2025, global logistics leader DHL Group placed a purchase order for 1,000 additional “Stretch” robots, which can unload up to 700 cases per hour from trailers without human input.
This move builds on a partnership that began in 2018 and has already introduced Stretch into operations across North America and Europe.
Over the past three years, DHL has invested over $1.17 billion into automation and now deploys more than 7,500 robots across its supply chain network.
“It’s a fundamental shift that’s reshaping how we operate,” Miller said. “Through this expanded partnership with Boston Dynamics, DHL will take a more active role in shaping and directing robotics development.”
Industry-Wide Shift Toward Automation
According to a 2025 MHI industry report, robotics adoption in supply chains is expected to rise from 41% to 83% within five years. Yet, companies still face challenges such as budget constraints, lack of clear ROI, and limited understanding of emerging technologies.
Solutions like Boston Dynamics’ Stretch and Atlas robots, powered by NVIDIA’s AI, are helping to bridge these gaps.
