Alex Padilla made headlines this weekend by declaring that the state will not cooperate with President-elect Trump's mass deportation plans. "No state’s government, not Texas, not California, not any state in the nation has a constitutional authority to impose federal immigration law," Padilla stated on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

A sanctuary city is a municipality that adopts policies to limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement actions. These cities claim to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation by not using local resources to enforce federal immigration laws. California, as a sanctuary state, has implemented such policies.
