The 43-year-old was attacked in the city's Rincon Hill neighborhood early in the morning. Police were called to the 300 block of Main Street near the entrance of a high-rise adjacent to the waterfront. Police arrived on the scene at 2:35 am on Tuesday, where they found Lee suffering from multiple stab wounds. And later died at the hospital. At this point, no arrests have been made. And police are urging anyone with information to come forward. by calling the SFPD tip-line 415-575-4444. The tech executive was working with MobilCoin at the time of his death. Bob Lee was a highly respected figure in the tech world. And made significant contributions to some of the industry's biggest companies. Prior to founding Cash App, Lee worked as a software engineer at Google from 2004 to 2010, where he helped design the core library for Android. After leaving Google, Lee joined Square as its chief technology officer, where he helped develop and launch Square Cash in 2013. The brand has since grown into Cash App. And has tens of millions of users in the US and the UK. Lee was also known for his active role as an investor in several tech startups, including SpaceX, Clubhouse, and Figma. He was always willing to lend his expertise and mentorship to young entrepreneurs, and his loss will be felt deeply by many in the industry. Block CEO Jack Dorsey, who cofounded Twitter, called Lee's death "heartbreaking." "It's real. Getting calls," Dorsey wrote. "Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App." Lee joined Square, Jack Dorsey's fintech company, as its first CTO in 2010. At the company, Lee is credited with much of the development of Cash App, a mobile payment platform. MobileCoin CEO Joshua Goldbard said Lee was "a force of nature,” and issued a statement calling Lee the "quintessential creator, leader, and consummate hacker." A Legacy of Innovation The tech community mourns the loss of one of its most brilliant minds. Bob Lee will be remembered for his exceptional talent and his passion for innovation, which he channeled into the creation of Cash App. He also championed numerous startups. Lee was a true pioneer in the tech industry. And his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of entrepreneurs.
