The incident occurred in a Fallbrook residence on Monday morning, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The initial call to the authorities arrived around 7:30 a.m. local time, reporting a shooting incident.

Deputies, on arrival, found the 1-year-old victim suffering from a severe head wound.

In a disheartening announcement, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed that first responders transported the toddler to Palomar Hospital, where she was pronounced dead approximately an hour later.
