Post Fire Threatens Los Angeles and Ventura Counties
The Golden State is bearing the brunt of the inferno, with a massive blaze dubbed the “Post Fire” consuming over 15,000 acres in northern Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Fanned by strong winds, the fire has ripped through hillsides covered in brush that grew back after a wet winter, according to NBC Los Angeles. Some residents have been forced to flee their homes as the inferno continues to spread rapidly.
Ignited on Saturday afternoon in the Gorman area, the Post Fire spread rapidly, with containment reaching only 8% by Monday morning. The blaze threatens nearby structures, prompting a massive firefighting effort.
CAL Fire has deployed nearly 1,200 firefighters across 34 crews, supported by water tenders and heavy machinery, to combat the flames.
Firefighters remain hopeful of containing this first major blaze of the season within a week, as stated by CAL Fire spokesperson Mr. Haskett to The New York Times.
