The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) gave its blessing Thursday to the long-anticipated Evri and DHL Merger, approving Evri’s takeover of DHL eCommerce UK and DHL’s simultaneous purchase of a minority stake in Evri Ltd.
The clearance signals the watchdog does not believe the deal will threaten competition in Britain’s parcel and letter delivery market. The regulator, which launched a Phase 1 probe in July after a preliminary review in June, opted not to escalate to a deeper Phase 2 investigation.
A New Postal Powerhouse
The tie-up will fuse Evri’s budget-friendly courier network with DHL’s premium van delivery services, creating a logistics giant positioned to handle over 1 billion parcels and 1 billion business letters annually.
Evri, backed by U.S. asset management powerhouse Apollo Global Management Inc., already processes more than 800 million parcels per year. Under the terms, Evri will retain its branding, while DHL’s eCommerce network will be rebadged as Evri Premium to handle express and high-security deliveries, including high-value items.
The merger also thrusts Evri into Britain’s letter-delivery business, with DHL’s UK Mail operations folded into the new company — marking a direct challenge to Royal Mail’s dominance.
