FBI Analyzing DNA From Glove Found Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home

Federal investigators are analyzing DNA recovered from a glove discovered near the Tucson, Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for two weeks, the FBI said Sunday.

According to authorities, the glove appears consistent with those worn by a masked individual captured on doorbell camera footage shortly before Guthrie disappeared. The footage allegedly shows a man wearing a ski mask attempting to disable the home’s camera system in the early morning hours.

The FBI said a DNA sample was extracted from the glove and is expected to be entered into the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a database used to compare genetic material collected from crime scenes with known profiles. Officials indicated that a potential database match could occur within 24 hours after submission, pending confirmation of laboratory results.

Preliminary testing was conducted by a private laboratory in Florida, and the findings were delivered to federal authorities on Saturday. The agency said the results are undergoing quality control and official verification before being uploaded for comparison.

Investigators recovered roughly 16 gloves in a roadside field about two miles from the residence of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. Most were later determined to have been dropped by search personnel involved in the investigation. The glove selected for DNA testing, officials said, stood out from the others and appeared similar to the one seen in the surveillance video.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 after family members dropped her off at her home following dinner. She was reported missing the next day. Authorities have stated she had limited mobility and could not have left her residence without assistance, leading investigators to treat the case as an abduction.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Friday he believed the individual seen in the video — who appeared armed and carrying a backpack — is the primary suspect.

Investigators previously confirmed that blood discovered on the front porch belonged to Nancy Guthrie. Officials have described her as being in fragile health and dependent on daily medication. She also has a pacemaker.

The sheriff said additional DNA not belonging to Guthrie or her immediate circle was recovered from the property, though no laboratory conclusions regarding those sample

At least two ransom notes have reportedly surfaced since her disappearance, initially sent to media outlets. Authorities have said there has been no confirmed direct communication between the suspected abductors and the family.

Over the weekend, law enforcement officers executed a federal search warrant at a residence less than two miles from Guthrie’s home. A person was questioned during a related traffic stop, but no arrests were announced.

Nancy Guthrie is the mother of television journalist Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” show. Family members have issued public appeals for her safe return. In a recent message posted online, Savannah Guthrie urged whoever is responsible to “do the right thing.”

Sheriff Nanos said there has been no verified proof of life since the abduction but added that there is no confirmed evidence of death.

The investigation remains active as federal and local authorities continue to pursue forensic leads and review surveillance evidence.
