FBI Confirms Guthrie Family Not Suspects as Search for Missing Mother Continues

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of TV anchor Savannah Guthrie, have confirmed that her family members are not suspects, as the search for the 84-year-old widens across Arizona. The investigation, now in its third week, has captivated national attention.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her southwestern Arizona home on February 1. Federal authorities, including the FBI, have intensified their efforts, raising the reward for information leading to her safe return or the arrest of those responsible to $100,000. Investigators have released photos and video showing a masked individual approaching the Guthrie home on the night of the disappearance. In the footage, the person is wearing gloves, a mask, and a backpack, and a holstered firearm is visible at the waist.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasized that the Guthrie family has been fully cooperative. “To be clear, the Guthrie family – including all siblings and spouses – has been cleared as possible suspects. They are victims, plain and simple,” Nanos said in a statement posted on X. “To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel.”

In a recent development, the FBI announced that DNA recovered from a glove found approximately two miles from Guthrie’s home appears to match that worn by the masked person seen in the surveillance footage. While authorities have not publicly named any suspects, investigators are actively following leads and reviewing all available evidence.

The Guthrie family has also received ransom letters, according to the FBI, though officials have not disclosed whether a ransom demand has been paid or negotiated. Savannah Guthrie made a personal plea to her mother’s captors on Instagram, urging them to do the right thing. “It’s never too late to act with humanity. We are here… and we believe in the essential goodness of every human being,” she said.

Local and federal authorities continue to coordinate in the search, combing nearby areas and reviewing surveillance footage. Investigators have asked the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in locating Nancy Guthrie safely.

The case remains active, and officials caution that details may change as the investigation unfolds. Meanwhile, the Guthrie family has called for privacy and support from the community while they hope for their mother’s safe return.
