FBI Director Christopher Wray found himself in the spotlight on Wednesday as he appeared before the House Judiciary Committee to answer questions and address accusations from committee members, particularly Republicans, who alleged that a political agenda drives the FBI.

During the hearing, lawmakers raised concerns about the FBI’s response to the events of January 6, investigations involving former President Donald Trump, President Biden, and the entire Biden family.

They also focused on the agency’s use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), a federal program that conducts surveillance on foreign entities for national security purposes.

Led by Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, Republican lawmakers expressed their worries that the FBI has become increasingly politicized under Wray’s leadership. Jordan even accused the FBI of illegally scrutinizing conservatives and Catholics, claiming the “weaponization of the government against the American people.”

Democrats viewed the hearing and other attacks on the FBI as attempts to settle scores related to the impeachments of President Trump and other political disputes.
