This legal win follows the Biden administration’s failed attempt to force Texas to remove floating barriers on the Rio Grande, further underscoring the escalating tensions between federal and state authorities.
Operation Lone Star
Texas has reinforced its border over the past year, installing extensive barbed wire barriers along its 1,200-mile boundary with Mexico.
The state has also dedicated over $4 billion to Operation Lone Star, which includes fortifying barriers, busing migrants to Democrat-led cities, and arresting migrants on trespassing charges.
In response to the ruling, Governor Greg Abbott stated on the social platform X, “We continue adding more razor wire border barrier.” Abbott has framed these measures as essential for state security, despite criticism from the federal government and humanitarian groups.
Some migrants have been injured by the sharp wire, prompting the Justice Department to argue that the barriers hinder the U.S. government’s ability to patrol the border and provide assistance to those in need.
