A tragic vehicle attack in Munich has claimed the lives of a 37-year-old mother and her 2-year-old daughter, both of whom succumbed to their injuries sustained in Thursday’s incident. The incident was similar to another German terrorist attack in December.
According to a spokesperson from the Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation, the victims were from Munich, and the mother worked for the city.
At least 37 other individuals, including multiple children, were injured when a white Mini Cooper plowed into a crowd during a Verdi trade union demonstration in central Munich, authorities reported.
Suspect Identified
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Afghan asylum-seeker Farhad Noori, was arrested at the scene and appeared before a Munich court on Friday. According to Senior Munich Public Prosecutor Gabriele Tillmann, Noori acted alone and admitted to deliberately driving into the crowd.
Prosecutors revealed that after the attack, Noori shouted “Allah Akbar,” meaning “God is great,” to responding officers. Tillmann stated that while authorities suspect a religious motivation influenced by Islamist ideology, there is no confirmed link to extremist organizations such as ISIS.
