In a major revelation, Google has admitted to Biden Administration censorship, acknowledging that the White House pressured the company to remove politically sensitive content from YouTube—even when it did not violate the platform’s own rules. The admission came in response to a House Judiciary Committee inquiry led by Chairman Jim Jordan (source).
Google pledged to reinstate thousands of American YouTube accounts that were previously banned for discussing COVID-19 and election-related topics. The company also promised to move away from third-party “fact-checkers” and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting free speech.
White House for Biden Administration Censorship
According to a September 23 letter submitted to Chairman Jordan, senior Biden officials engaged in “repeated and sustained outreach” to Google and its parent company Alphabet, urging the removal of user-generated content related to COVID-19. Importantly, Google admitted that the flagged content did not violate YouTube’s policies.
