Presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris continues to make national news. Following President Biden's exit from the 2024 election, he quickly endorsed Harris to become the new nominee.

Democrats will hold their convention in late August. It is during this time that the vice president is expected to formally accept her party's nomination, as she's already received enough support from delegates to do so.

As part of her efforts to reach voters, Harris has started campaigning across the country and holding different rallies. She even set up a new TikTok account, which has so far attracted a following of over 1.5 million.

Earlier this morning, the vice president's campaign revealed she's been endorsed by former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

A major boost for the Harris presidential campaign

Video footage on social media shows Harris speaking with the Obamas over the phone.

During the exchange, the former president and first lady let Harris know they feel "proud" to endorse her and assist her in winning the November election. On social media, the Obamas also put out statements of their own, highlighting their support for her candidacy.

This follows a growing list of Democrats who've rallied behind the vice president in the wake of Biden suspending his reelection run. The following officials are just some of the Democrat Parrty's big names to back Harris:

• Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
• California Gov. Gavin Newsom
• President Joe Biden
• Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
• Former President Bill Clinton
• New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
• Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear

The vice president has likewise seen backing from various union groups and even a Haley Voters For Harris coalition on X. This group favored former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley during the GOP primary. Though they are now supporting Harris in the general election.

Debating Trump

Before Biden dropped out of the 2024 race, he was set to face off against Trump in a September 10 debate. The former president previously stated he'd be willing to debate Harris. Though on Thursday, his campaign announced they would not commit to a debate until the Democrats formally select their nominee.

In response, the vice president slammed Trump. According to Harris, the former president is "backpedaling," but she's ready to go. She also told reports that voters deserve to see her and Trump face off on the "split screen."
