Ever since Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 1400s, the wealthy have had the ability to distribute content to the masses and influece society, from elections to buying patterns.    Corporate empires like the NY Times emerged, where billionaire influencers were able to buy up ink by the barrels and trees by the forest to capture your eye balls and influence your views.

With a select elitists and their political puppets having access to the media, elections were tilted in the favor of the highest bidder whom curried the most favor to the publisher.   We, the people, were led to believe that “mainstream” news was to be trusted, and that what was reported on was gospel.

As the internet evolved, the barrier-to-entry to get your story to the masses lowered.   Google, Twitter, Facebook, Medium, Blogs…all made it possible to get your news out there with the hopes of mainstream media picking it up for coverage.   Still…even with all of these “new media” tools, people didn’t have a way of drawing large audiences to their stories like mainstream media…rendering their voices moot.
