Russian casualties increasing
The UK MoD, in an intelligence update, noted that Russia’s ability to execute such resource-intensive assaults has been bolstered by a substantial increase in recruitment throughout the course of the conflict, employing financial incentives and a partial mobilization last year.
The report elucidated, “This surge in personnel is the key factor behind Russia’s capacity to both defend its occupied territory and execute costly offensive maneuvers.”
Additionally, the MoD estimated that Russian forces have suffered approximately 150,000 to 190,000 “permanent casualties,” encompassing both fatalities and those left with permanent wounds, since President Putin’s full-scale invasion commenced in February 2022.
It’s noteworthy that these figures do not encompass the mercenary Wagner Group, previously led by Yevgeny Prigozhin until reports of his death in an August plane crash, nor the prisoner battalions that were engaged in fierce combat in Bakhmut.
